Arr there be pirates here.

Tonight we worked on a bunch of stuff including getting sound and our pirate flag and sail up.
I was having a hard time getting outdoor speakers that worked the way I wanted.  I bought s
ome but then ended up not being loud enough, as luck would have it, there was a very old loud speaker in my parents basement that my grandpa had given them like 30 years ago. It kinda looks like this,  but it ended up working perfectly, so I was really happy
about that.  I made up a pirate soundtrack on my computer and let it rip.

Next it was time to work on the
sail. I had an old black drop cloth and some left over pieces of our Halloween fence, put them together with a little kite string for the rigging and your done.

Now its time to raise the Jolly Roger.

As of October 5th here is what the front of our haunted house looks like.  Check back soon for more updates.

The graveyard

What haunted house would be complete with out a graveyard for its ghosts to haunt. I put this up while melissa was still at work to surprise her.   Some guys give flowers, I give headstones, and melissa couldn't be happier.

Making Invitations

Halloween Invitations

Greetings ghouls and ghosts, today Melissa and I worked on our physical invitations, we already sent out our electronic ones.

In keeping with our pirate theme we decided to give our guests an invitation to die for. The Black Spot. Read Treasure Island if you don't know what this means, or look it up on google. So first we started with printed invitations, then we added the BLACK SPOT. Here's a picture of me adding the cursed mark.

Next it was time to add the burn edges. Now if there are any kids reading this, DON'T PLAY WITH FIRE!  With that said, I grabbed a lighter and got to burning.  It worked better then I expected and all I ended up with was some sooty fingers.

Next we made the envelopes, I made up a pirate pattern in photoshop and we printed them onto envelopes.  I hope that the post office doesn't have to hard a time delivering them, I uses a scripty font.  Finally we decided to seal our letters with sealing wax, old fashion, but it adds a nice touch.  Problem was, we didn't have any seals, so what did we do, we made them. Melissa made a great spider web and I made a bat, we used the spider web. Here's a picture of melissa sealing the first envelope.  So cheers, and here's hoping that the black spot finds you.  ~ Chris

Bubble Fogger

Hello all,
October is just days away and Chris and I are in the planning phase of Halloween 2008. There's some cool new gadgets out on the market this year. This is a movie of the Bubble Fogger in action. Basically the machine fills the bubbles with fog and releases them into the air creating an eerie effect!

Note: If anyone is interested, we got the Bubble Fogger at target. However, you should know that the large bubble setting doesn't really work, the bubbles are just too large to get off the ground. But the small bubbles are very cool!

Halloween is almost here

Welcome everyone to my first post about Halloween 2008, this year my wife and I are going to be turning our home into a haunted under sea tomb, complete with ghost, pirates, and creatures that go splash in the night. Over the next few weeks we will be creating lots of fun props, invitations and other Halloween goodies. So come back often to see what we have in store for you. I'm sure you'll be dying for more. ~ Chris
